Grants and funding available for Cambridge University Hospitals
Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust’s has regular grant rounds for projects that support patient benefit, research and innovation. Applications for these grants are made through the ACT Funding Portal. We also hold charitable funds for many departments in the hospital. Request to spend from these funds should be made using our Charitable Expenditure Request Form.

ACT is proud to support projects across Addenbrooke’s, The Rosie and beyond that benefit patients. Applications for ACT funding should demonstrate that they are over and above NHS funding responsibilities and that they deliver, or are in pursuit of, patient benefit. More information about the sort of projects we fund can be found here. All projects must comply with our charitable expenditure policy.
A single form for all requests
If you have an idea for a project or request for funding, please complete a Charitable Funding Request Form. We will review your application and help you find the most appropriate funding source. We aim to respond:
- Within 2 weeks if your application or Expression of Interest is under £5,000
- Within 2 weeks initially if your application or Expression of Interest is over £5,000 but full approval can take up to three months, depending on the value and complexity of your request.
To apply for funding you do not need to have a departmental ACT fund or sufficient funds in a departmental ACT fund.

CUH Approvals
ACT-funded expenditure needs sign-off and approvals in exactly the same way as if it were NHS-funded. The guide to approvals provides a reference as to what is required.
